What is Placenta Encapsulation?

What does the whole process entail?

What are the benefits of Placenta Encapsulation?

Placenta Encapsulation as defined by The American Pregnancy Organization, "is the practice of ingesting the placenta after it has been steamed, dehydrated, ground, and placed into pills. Traditionally, this is taken by the mother and is believed to impart numerous health benefits.  It is frequently taken shortly after giving birth, during a woman’s menstrual period, or during menopause with the belief that it helps counter some of the symptoms of menopause"

The placenta is an amazingly complex organ and holds many nutrients such as Prolactin, Oxytocin, Gammaglobulin, Iron and Interferon. As well as many other hormones and nutrients, the particular ones listed may help the mother have a faster recovery, her bleeding may lessen, her breast milk may come in sooner and be more bountiful, her overall mood and energy levels may be higher and she may rebalance, hormonally sooner than she would normally expect.

Houston Placenta Services (Formerly Born Free Birthing) is known for making the whole process as simple as possible for new families. I know they are busy and have a newborn baby to devote their time and attention to.

Once a client books their placenta encapsulation with Houston Placenta Services, they will receive a confirmation email and detailed list of instructions that will include when and how to contact me on the birth day, how to store the placenta after the birth etc. They will be mailed a placenta transportation kit that is small and discreet. The kit will include storage bags for ice and the placenta. Another list of instructions which will include pictures will be sent along with it. The client simply births their baby, and calls or texts me to let me know the placenta is ready for pick up. The placenta will be picked up soon after the birth and processed immediately in the dedicated placenta kitchen and the finished products will be delivered back to the client within 48-72 hours along with full instructions on consumption and storage. I am available for guidance for as long as the placenta products are being consumed. I happily answer any questions my clients may have.

Services and Products Offered:

Traditional Method (TM) of Encapsulation - The placenta is cleaned, inspected and steamed before slicing for dehydrating. In the steaming water lemon, ginger and a hot pepper are placed. It is believed by including these elements into the steaming water we are introducing a grounding, balancing and detoxifying effect for the mother. Many say this method of encapsulation allows for a slower more gentle release of hormones into the mothers body upon consumption. Steaming will however cause considerable shrinkage and this method tends to yield fewer capsules.

Raw Method of Encapsulation - The placenta is cleaned, inspected and thinly sliced for dehydration. Many mothers agree this method of encapsulation gives a stronger release of hormones upon consumption.

Placenta Print/Art - A print is made on artist grade paper using the cleaned placenta.

Placenta Tincture - A small slice of the cleaned placenta is infused in 4oz of high proof gluten free alcohol. This is consumed after the capsules are finished and can be stored and consumed for many years ahead. Great for menstruation, hormonal upset, menopause etc.

Healing Salve - A thick balm made from organic ingredients that can be used for cradle cap, diaper rash, cracked nipples, perineal tears, cesarean section scars.

Umbilical Cord Keepsake - A portion of the cleaned umbilical cord is shaped and dehydrated for a keepsake.

Mama's Healing Herbal Bath - A wonderful combination of healing herbs and flowers brought together in a soaking bag used for the first bathing after baby is born. Great for perineal tearing and general healing after the birth.
